Sillivan Lake is a large dry lake
in East Central Alberta. In ages past it was the
home to teeming herds of Buffalo where the Cree and Blackfoot
peoples found nourishment and sustenance. Today and for
many years now the Lake is dry. The land is dotted with
Oil and Gas Wells. Near by are coal fired power generation
stations.
Nearby, the Red Deer River
runs through the spoke of the Medicine Wheel and is the
main body of water. The location that we have chosen for
the ceremony is down near the waters of this River. A picture
of the location that we will use is seen below.
REPORTS
We came, we gathered, we prayed
and we danced. We drummed our hears out and felt the vibrations
rising and the energy flowing. I have many thanks to the
small group that gathered, with participants comming both
from nearby and from Calgary, Edmonton and Didsbury.
May 8th was began as a bright
sunny day, with a light wind. We met around 10:00 am, we
gatheed wood for our fire (Yes I know we did bring some,
but we found more was needed,) and Rocks for the wheel that
we built on the site. We said prayers and made offerings
and then commenced our drumming which continued for two
hours continuously. Some of the group climbed into the high
airs to drum, others went down by the waters, in this fashion
all the elements were called into our vibrations.
At the conculsion during our
final prayers, an eagle flew overhead, calling to us and
offering his blessing on the ceremony.
Afterwards we adjourned to the
town of Morin for a feast. Later that evening the group
visited the Ancient Medicine Wheel located on a high hill
to the south-east of Rumsey Alberta. And later that day
and continuing today, it has rained/snowed.
