The Effigy

Comments:

The Buffalo Effigy is on the tour circuit out of Cornach and is generally accessable by the public. It is off a grid road directly south of Big Beaver about one mile from the border with the US. We visited the site in 2006 when it was very dry. We were running out of time that day and did not stay very long at the site. We did stop at the Big Beaver Museum and Nature Centre where the staff were very helpful in providing directions and information on the area.

The following quote from another web site sums things up quite well about the site.

The area around Big Beaver is one of the richest in boulder effigies. These locations which have never come under cultivation, show monuments of geometric patterns laid out in stone. Some are unexplainable, but others of human or animal figures tell of personal or tribal tragedies, battles, and others represent the resting place of important tribal members. Artifacts of the Hanna, Pelican Lake, and Besant cultures are found in the area. This gives evidence of human occupation at 3000 and 2000 years ago.
